The Sorel river station is an essential transportation hub connecting Sorel-Tracy and Saint-Ignace across the St. Lawrence River. The terminal was built using STEKAR’s STE-6000 curtain wall system for passenger areas. The terminal’s river-facing façade is largely composed of curtain walls, offering travelers a panoramic view of the ferry arrival and the waterway. This extensive glazing also fills the interior with natural light, creating a pleasant waiting environment. The curtain wall is constructed with marine-grade finishes and laminated safety glass to withstand the harsh conditions of the riverfront (wind, salt, ice) and ensure passenger safety. The rest of the structure consists of sturdy concrete and steel panels, but the glass façade at the front remains the focal point of the architecture. STEKAR integrated openable sections for ventilation and coordinated the interface with the ferry dock canopy for weather protection. The result is a modern terminal facade that embodies transparency and efficiency—travelers can easily see ferry schedules and arrivals through the glass, and it withstands heavy daily use and weather conditions, enhancing the overall traveler experience on this busy crossing.
