Frequently Asked Questions

What is a pressure-equalized rainscreen system, and why does it matter for building envelope performance?

A pressure‑equalized rainscreen uses a ventilated cavity behind the cladding. Dry gaskets allow air to move freely, balancing pressure and preventing wind‑driven rain from penetrating. Water that gets behind the cladding drains out quickly. This design improves durability and energy performance.

What exactly is the Multifacades and why does it fit so well in modern architecture?

Multifaçades is STEKAR’s patented rainscreen system. It integrates various cladding materials (glass, aluminum, sintered stone, HPL, BIPV) with a flush window (SM160) to produce a sleek, aligned façade. Its pressure‑equalized design ensures superior thermal. Architects appreciate its minimalistic lines, material flexibility and ability to create hybrid façades that meet stringent energy codes while achieving contemporary aesthetics

What are the concrete advantages of using the Multifacades system?
  • Design versatility: supports multiple cladding materials and shapes (rectangular, trapezoidal, curved) with panel sizes up to ~54 sq. ft..
  • Durability: engineered for extreme climates; panels and windows can be replaced individually without disturbing adjacent panels.
  • High thermal and acoustic performance: the system is anchored to an insulated wall rather than continuous metal mullions, drastically reducing thermal bridging.
  • Ease of installation: panels are prefabricated and attached with simple anchors; installation is rapid and often done from the inside.
  • Compliance: tested to comply with all North American standards, ensuring regulatory acceptance
When is a hybrid façade approach (more opaque + integrated glazing) preferable to a fully glazed curtain wall?

Hybrid façades like Multifaçades are advantageous when energy codes restrict glazing area, when thermal and acoustic performance are priorities, or the design is very important. By combining highly insulated walls using opaque panels with flush glazing, the system achieves a look similar to curtain walls but with better insulation and reduced thermal bridging. Projects with more than 60 % opaque surfaces gain the most benefit.
