Curtain Walls
The Théâtre des Gros Becs in Quebec City is a project of remarkable technical complexity. The project combined two complementary components: the renovation of a heritage building dating from 1912 and a contemporary extension designed to interact with the existing structure.
Renovation of the 1912 building
In a heritage context, every opening, every junction, and every tolerance becomes an issue. STEKAR ensured the integration of curtain walls into the existing structure, as well as the replacement of openings while maintaining a consistent architectural appearance thanks to the Multifaçades system. The mandate also included the addition of a skylight in the roof and several interior glass installations, all executed with particular care, despite a wide variety of finishes (multiple paints and anodizations).
Modern expansion
The extension showcases the Multifaçades system through a composition of opaque glass cladding in different colors. On the main façade, curtain wall sections and gradient screen-printed glass create a coherent transition between the old and the new, while preserving a clear contemporary signature.
Result
This project illustrates an approach that is sought after on today’s construction sites: respect for heritage, architectural freedom, and precision of execution, without compromising on the consistency of interfaces and the quality of details.
