The Metro grocery distribution center in Laval includes a significant administrative wing that was outfitted by STEKAR with a STE-6000 curtain wall and insulated aluminum panels. JCF Architecte’s design for the front office facade brings a human scale and corporate identity to what is otherwise a large warehouse complex. The two-story lobby and office section features a broad curtain wall with tinted glazing, proudly displaying the Metro logo and creating a bright interior for employees.

This curtain wall is engineered to span long lengths, using reinforcing mullions to handle wind loads on the expansive facade. Adjacent to the glass, STEKAR installed thermally insulated panels (in the company’s signature red and grey) that clad the solid portions of the facade.

These panels not only provide the necessary insulation for climate-controlled offices but also break up the massing of the building with a clean, horizontal delineation. The façade assembly was executed to meet high airtightness requirements, crucial for energy savings in a 24/7 facility.
