The Valleyfield courthouse is a contemporary judicial building that reflects transparency and authority through its simplified design. The main façade uses STEKAR’s STE-6000 curtain wall system, which rises over several floors to create a glass façade worthy of a courthouse.

The transparent glazing of the curtain wall symbolizes openness in the judicial process, allowing natural light into the public waiting areas and corridors. To achieve LEED certification, the façade incorporates solar-control measures such as fritted glass and discreetly installed sunshades to reduce heat gain while maintaining visibility.

The rest of the building envelope consists of robust masonry and concrete walls for the courtrooms, punctuated by narrow vertical windows that provide both security and natural light. The installation of the curtain wall by STEKAR prioritized structural resistance, blast resistance, and acoustic attenuation, given the sensitive functions inside.

The completed façade is austere yet modern: the flat, elegant glass surface is anchored by the weight of the stone, projecting the image of a judicial institution that is both transparent and strong. Overall, the façade of the Valleyfield courthouse meets the high technical requirements of a courthouse—security, efficiency, durability—and stands as a civic landmark with its contemporary and confident appearance.
